Well it is finally here. The end of the 2019 college basketball season is upon us. A lot of us probably begrudgingly watched Duke and Zion tear up the regular season and as cool as it was to watch Zion do insane things on the court like jump from inside the paint and block a 3 point shot, the overwhelming majority of us enjoy watching number 1 fall. They should've lost to UCF and to Virginia Tech for crying out loud.
Firstly, let me start out by saying this. I know most of our audience here at ASB is Carlsbad based. I know this isn't correct, but I'm going to go ahead and assume that most of the ASB readers from Carlsbad probably like Texas Tech. Well surprise surprise, I think Texas Tech is overrated and I hope they get their doors blown off in the Natty. Again, I can only hope. I don't think they're "fun" to root for, I don't think that they're the underdog and that's why I should root for them, I don't think that they're fun to watch.
I've been thinking of a pro sports comparison for the Red Raiders and I think I found the perfect one. Prior their most recent Super Bowl victory, the Philadelphia Eagles were widely considered a laughing stock because they would always think that they were cool and they should be taken seriously when in reality, they had not won any Super Bowl titles before that, so there really wasn't anything to applaud. That is EXACTLY what Texas Tech is like, except with literally all other sports. No school has ever acted like they've won more when in reality they literally haven't won anything noteworthy. Just a bunch of success only to get beat in the postseason when it mattered.
On the other side of the ball, we have the University of Virginia Cavaliers. They've had a ton of perennial regular season success before losing in the NCAA tournament, usually in heart-breaking fashion. I mean seriously, they lost to a 16 seed last year. That was genuinely hilarious! I'm not going to sit here and say that they deserve to win the title, but it would make for a good storyline to go from being beaten in an historic fashion to winning it all the following year. That would make a hell of a documentary.
I wish I could sit here and say that both these teams are deserving of this success and either school should be happy about all they've done this year to get to the point to where they are and that I'm happy for both schools. But that would make me a liar. I wish this game would somehow end to where they both lose horribly. Watching both of these schools play basketball makes me want to puke and tear my eyeballs out of my socket. GROSS.
That being said, I would love to see Tony Bennett finally get the monkey of his back and put those horrible losses (LOL they lost to UMBC) behind him. So I guess you can say that I want Virginia to win.
Which all but guarantees that Texas Tech is going to blow the doors off of Virginia. Guaranteed. Bet the house on it, empty your bank account and double your net worth by betting everything you own on Texas Tech to win this thing. It's going to be absolutely putrid basketball. I think the final score from Minneapolis will be Texas Tech winning 65-47. That would make the Tejas Tetch Red Raiders your 2019 National Champions.
I just barfed while typing that sentence. Gross.
