The Carlsbad Cavemen are coming off a statement 30-17 road win at Las Cruces, a game many around the state called an upset, and now it's rivalry week against the Hobbs Eagles.
In the final regular-season Cavemen Insider, host Trey Gonsalez breaks down the keys to the Las Cruces win. Brock Wright set the tone with an 85-yard return on the opening kickoff and finished with 142 yards and three touchdowns. The defense came up big all night, led by two interceptions from Damen Valencia and 13 tackles from Colton McKibben.
Now, it's on to Hobbs. Carlsbad (6-3) has climbed to No. 8 (some sites show No. 6) in the state, while Hobbs (4-5) sits at No. 10. The offenses are close, but the defenses are not. We look at the projections, the players to watch on both sides, and why the Cavemen are hungry for redemption after Hobbs won the last three meetings, including last year's quarterfinal. A win could also secure a home playoff game heading into Selection Sunday.
It's senior night and Halloween Eve at Ralph Boyer Stadium, and the student theme is "Wear Your White Lie," so grab a white tee and write your best white lie on it. Kickoff is Friday, October 30 at 7 PM, and we'll be streaming the live broadcast if you can't make it.
